When the entire Czech lands are thrown into chaos—bandits roam the countryside, a military dictator has seized control of Prague, and the government in Vienna has vanished—the National Alliance emerges. A coalition of mayors, industrialists, intellectuals—and above all, ordinary people determined to protect their families amidst the catastrophe.

What began as a small group of volunteers defending the last of their food supplies quickly grows into an army. And that army will be needed, because the dictator in Prague will not tolerate anyone standing against him in the Czech lands.
